The Black Warrior Basin is a geologic sedimentary basin consisting of the western Alabama and northern Mississippi areas of the United States. The name was derived from the Black Warrior River. CBM production of coal beds can be considered a safety measure utilized in advance of underground mining. CBM is produced after underground mining from fractured rock wastes (gob) and especially from the breakdown of roof rock generated by longwall mining. CBM can also be produced from unmined coal beds. Summit Alabama Operating Company operates coalbed methane wells in Alabama.
